Don't Fear The Reaper: The LSSF ongoing dead musicians thread
![]() "Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as ravens' claws"--James Douglas Morrison I propose that instead of making a specific thread for each musician who dies--which only gets a few posts and then sits on the forum occupying bandwidth--we start an ongoing thread for all of them. I'll kick it off with Jack Bruce, the bassist and (usually) the lead singer for Cream. Jack Bruce dies at 71 May he rest in peace in Raspberry Heaven. The Cream classic "Sunshine Of Your Love".

A few months ago, but ... blues/rock guitarslinger Johnny Winter. My brother Dan and I spent many hours during our 'teens learning songs off Johnny Winter albums. Johnny's version of Johnny B. Goode (no pun intended) remains the standard for me.

Rest in peace Jack Bruce and Johnny Winter. As I know Cream better than Johnny Winter I'll leave only this one here:

The death of Johnny Winter was definitely a heartbreaking news, I will miss.
My father is a huge fan of Johnny Winter, so I was introduced to his music when I was just a kid and I was even named after him.

Can someone tell me why we need a thread about dying musicians?

Why not? So many great musicians has passed away in such a short time. So having a proper place to discuss about it doesn't seem such a bad idea.
Besides, I've seen waaaay more pointless threads here than this.

Man, this thread will get all kinds of strange when Eric Bloom passes away.

@BB: That explains why your Dad owns a Gibson Firebird (does he play with a thumbpick?). Dad has good taste.
I'll try to close the Johnny Winter portion of this thread: for me, there is no more iconic song for Johnny than this one. Penned by Rick Derringer, who tried and tried to make it work (ever hear White Trash's version?). John got it RIGHT. Pared down to the basics: guitar, bass, and drums; short and HOT. The title is now ironic, but for me, Johnny Winter's music will always be .... STILL ALIVE AND WELL
