News Articles Recommendations

I've always end up reading something cool that I think I can share here, but it's not something big enough to create a new thread. So I decided to create this one! I don't know how the reception will be, but I kinda liked the idea, I'm sure more people read something nice, but don't think a new thread shall be created due to it. So here it is my recommendation. I'll try posting in daily basis ;).

For today:
http://www.bbc.com/news/business-30491170 - Regarding Russia crisis.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7326736.stm - Credit card scam.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7095134.stm - A funny one.

Man executes two officers from the NYPD.

Given his comments beforehand, which reference the Garner ruling, this could not have come at a worse time.

Spoiler: show

U. S. Torture Program Created ISIS

Subtitled: "Nice Job Creating Terrorists, You Morons"

Take it away, Cap'n...

EDIT: On 2nd thought, creating more enemies creates more contracts for the "defense" industry, and keeps the power, money, and perks coming for "defense" bureaucrats, both military and civilian.

So "blowback" isn't a bug; it's a feature.

As General Smedley Butler said, war is a racket.

If anyone is wondering how a preponderance of my countrymen got brainwashed into supporting endless imperial wars, even after we got our bunbuns handed to us in Vietnam, I recommend this article by Robert Parry.

The Victory Of "Perception Management"

tl;dr version--starting in the Reagan Administration, the government simply started using the same propaganda methods at home it already used in other countries.

Haruhi help us and help the world, those methods work.

Mr. Parry could just as well have called his article "The Victory Of Lies".

There's been an attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. 12 are dead, 10 are injured (4 of the 10 critically injured), though the number of dead may rise. Many of the journalists are extremely famous in the French media.

The attack was well planned - They attacked on a day when all the journalists were meeting, got in without much trouble, called out the journalists that they wanted to kill, and fled by car after. Witness account has the shooters claim they are part of Al-Queda.

The offenders have not been caught as of yet. If you have any information, I'd urge you to contact authorities right away.

Charlie Hebdo is a magazine well known for pushing the limits. Years ago, a Danish cartoonist made a very controversial image regarding Mohammad and they chose to reprint it (despite outcry from their own government). They also have received retaliation in the past as they have been firebombed in 2011.

This image is from 2011. It reads "100 lashes if you're not dying of laughter".

This morning, they also posted an image of Islamic State's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. It wishes a good year and good health.

It should also be noted that France has been the target of multiple violent attacks recently.

Why The Arab World Fights, by William Pfaff.

Sidelight: Pfaff, IIRC, is more or less what we USAmericans would call a liberal (what you folks across the Atlantic would call a mild social-democrat), but the magazine The American Conservative printed this article.

Once upon a time in the USA, nearly all "doves" were found on the Left (well, what passes for a Left in the USA), while nearly all "hawks" were found on the Right. The distribution of hawks and doves has become increasingly even across the USAmerican political spectrum.
