Splatoon

Splatoon is an upcoming team-based third-person shooter developed and published by Nintendo, due out for the Wii U platform in early 2015. It was first unveiled with a playable build of the game at E3 2014, to widespread acclaim.

In Splatoon, players control one of four humanoid squid creatures called "Inklings" on one of two opposing teams. The goal of the game is to use your ink-based weaponry (pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, etc.) to cover as much of the playing field with ink as possible, with the team with the most field area covered in their team's colored ink winning the match. Players can transform into squids to quickly travel through their team's ink (you cannot travel through your opponents' ink), and players can also use the Wii U gamepad (which contains a complex diagram of the playing field) to slingshot themselves across the playing field to assist fellow team members in distress. Getting hit by an opponent's ink will send you back to your team's spawn area.

I am beyond excited for this game. It's like Nintendo said, "Most shooters nowadays are dark, gritty, violent, realistic, feature buff dudes as protagonists, and they all glorify war. Let's make a shooter that is NONE OF THAT." It's a very fun-looking and unique concept, and it lends itself much better to strategy and tactical thinking than just killing people. This, Hyrule Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles X are the current main reasons for me to get a Wii U.

That's half the reason that I will strongly consider picking this one up when it comes out. I also found its gameplay intriguing.

Lastly, all the Ika Musume crossovers are the icing on the cake. I've heard they were making comparisons before the announcement trailer even came to a close.

Ika Musume's creator even made Splatoon fanart shortly after the announcement and has expressed his desire to see Ika Musume DLC for the game. Which I would totally pay money for.

I didn't find this game to be very interesting. With the horrible online features of the Wii, I am very sceptical about the online features of the Wii U. For this game to be fun, you must play against other people, not alone with bots; it is the online community which makes these games fun.

^I'm considering it. Definitely eager to try out Splatoon, and I'm more interested in getting a Wii U nowadays anyway, so it's something I'll want to keep in mind.
