"It Ain't Over Till It's Over": The Ongoing Dead Athletes Thread

As with the ongoing dead musicians thread I created, I did not want to create a thread for the loss of one athlete, then just have it receive a few entries, and then sit on the forum taking up bandwidth for the life of the forum. Hence, this forum is meant to record the deaths of athletes in general.

I'll begin with the man whom I quoted in the title.

Baseball legend Yogi Berra has died at 90.

Wiki article on Yogi

Yogi was perhaps as famous for his Zen-like wordplay as for his baseball skills.

A particularly appropriate Yogiism now says: "Always go to other people's funerals; otherwise, they won't go to yours."

May he rest in peace in Raspberry Heaven.

Meadow George "Meadowlark" Lemon, of the Harlem Globetrotters, has died at age 83.

May he shoot hoops in peace in Raspberry Heaven.

Well, 2016 still sucks.

Muhammad Ali, silenced for years by Parkinson's already, passes away at 74.

Yeah, that sucks.

At least he's free of that damned Parkinson's now. Unfortunately, Parkinson's Disease is not an enemy one can rope-a-dope and then punch out.

Given his talent for rhyming, if not for the Parkinson's, he might have made a second career as a rapper.

May the Champ rest in peace in Raspberry Heaven.

Gordie Howe, one of the most iconic hockey players best known for playing into his 50s (typical retirement age is in the late 30s to early 40s), has passed away. Considered one of the best players in the game and now remembered for his name in the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick", a goal, an assist, and a fight.

Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández was killed in a boating incident just recently at age 24. My deepest condolences go out to his loved ones and to the Miami Marlins themselves.

And today still sucks.

Arnold Palmer, an extremely famous golfer (and namesake of the hybrid lemonade/iced tea drink) passed away.

To compound that, a local professional athlete was killed outside a bar in a shooting incident (to put it in context, this is rare enough that it made national news despite the league constantly playing second fiddle to the NFL).
