Pokémon GO - New Augmented Reality Pokémon Game for Smartphone

Those such as myself who grew up with fantasies of being a Pokémon trainer can now live them, as Nintendo and Niantic have collaborated to create Pokémon GO, a new smartphone game that aims to bring the battles and adventures of the Pokémon video games into real life.

In Pokémon GO, players, as Pokémon trainers, search real locations using their smartphones to find, battle and capture Pokémon. Staples such as trading and trainer battles are also present, and you can also fight Legendary battles with other trainers in the area. The game will also release alongside a Bluetooth-enabled device called the Pokémon GO Plus, which uses vibration and LED lighting to update trainers on the game.

If this is done right, which I'm positive it will be, this will legit be the coolest thing ever.

I need to switch to an android phone just for this xD If this can be done right, then maybe my aprehensiveness towards nintendo making mobile games was wrong

Yesssssss such excitement
Oh i so hope it's as good as it looks, it looks incredible :)
It could bring local pokemon fans who would've otherwise never met together, and that's a great thing

I can't wait. I was planning on getting a new phone, so Ill get a Galaxy or something just for this. Italians actually play Pokčmon so I should actually get some use out of it. I just hope the hype reaches here

This sounds incredibly neat; I especially like the concept of battling legendaries alongside other players nearby.

I'll be looking forward to the eventual release!

Wow, interesting as hell.

edit: of course it's cross platform, I misinterpreted what GB said because I wasn't able to watch the video itself at the time.

Anyway, hopefully one day we'll also get pokemon for VR- first person pokemon with a vive? yes please.

Reminds me of all those A.R. treasure hunt games, which is interesting and could fit hunting for rare pokemon very well.

I don't have a mobile device, but I'm hopeful. Pokemon's been stale for a while and this could potential bring some new life into it. Pokemon Red was probably the first game I owned, so I do want to see this succeed.

That said, just watch Nintendo charge you for extra daily pokeballs.

Also, who DIDN'T see this coming already like five years ago? It should have been obvious even before the dina deal. Proprietary gaming platforms like consoles and handhelds are on the way out. Nintendo doesn't want to go down with the ship and they have enough popular IPs to survive and thrive in a post console landscape. If anything, I'm just surprised they didn't go down this route a couple years sooner.

there will be private closed beta release in Winter 2015, there's no details about how people will be chosen for the beta, but i'll totally try to apply for it if i can :)

The place I work for has explored the use of AR very early on, and I'm glad it's being more and more popular!

I can see this being a huge hit at cons!

Wow this sounds awesome. When it comes out I might really get into Pokemon again.
