No it's not very local. The market for manga is not one of the biggest one in Norway. But I'm going on a concert in the capital (where my local manga store is located) so I'll pop in and hopefully buy the manga.

I've been looking for Lucky Star Volume 2 of the manga for two months and I still can't find it. Bandai Entertanment's Lucky Star offcial website said it will be released in October and I haven't seen a single copy in stores.

They just started not too long ago. Manga I know they do are Lucky Star, Gurren Lagann and Code Geass. I have Gurren Lagann volume 1 (which was released on time, by the way), and I'm very impressed with the translations in it, though the amount of swearing added (saying "damn" "hell" "bastard" "ass" and "son of a bitch") bugged me just a touch when I thought of the fact they're also doing Lucky Star, and they did that sorta swearing in the dub, which is one of the many reasons I don't like the L*S dub, but that's another story.

The point is, with those with volume one of Lucky Star manga, do they add in that type of swearing in the official translations? If so, I'm afraid that's three things off my Christmas list.

If you can't find it in your local store, it may not be because it isn't released. Try to ask the people who work there to order it for you.

Akira swearing helps emphasise the diffference between her real self and her act, but she doesn't really appear in volume 1. Lucky Channel had the bulk of the swearing, while the manga concentrates on the main show.

But I think that Droote hit the nail on the head earlier. If a character is cute or innocent and they begin swearing like a sailor, then that's a problem. And seeing as Lucky Star is all about cuteness and subtleties, swearing doesn't fit, as it is neither cute nor subtle. Heck, even Lucky Channel had subtleties, so I don't think it'd fit very well there either.

And there was also a significant amount of unwarranted swearing in the dub's main segments, too. (Konata and company unneededly say stuff like "bitch", "hell" (Konata said "what the hell" once when it was unneeded), "ass", Kagami called Konata a spaz without warrant in episode 13, etc.)

But, basically, I won't buy the manga if it has too much swearing (maybe "damn" once or twice when warranted, "hell" used in the material sense, etc.) because it's distracting and conflicts with the tones of the main series. It's fine in other shows like Haruhi Suzumiya or, as was said already, Gurren Lagann, but it simple does not fit Lucky Star's image and characters, in either regular series or Lucky Channel segments. I want my anime and manga done right to my expectations, and I will not take no for an answer.

I don't think the translators will put into too much swearing in the second volume of LS. I can't remember much swearing in the first volume, just a few occasions where someone would say "hell" or "damn". I don't remember.
I would've bought it no matter how much swearing it has got. I will not flip through the whole manga to check if they swear too much in it.

Only thought of that after I left, really. I thought it was odd, as I picked up my copy of vol. 1 from the Forbidden Planet in New York (only one outside of the UK), but I haven't seen volume 1 or 2 in any Forbidden Planet in the UK (they might not be distributed here, which is why I usually rely on the internet). As volume 3 was in the 'New Releases' section, and volume 2 would've been released when I was moving it's possible that they had a limited number in and sold out. I'll ask if I can get one on order next time I'm in town. Or after Christmas. Somewhere in there.

Konata is once again famous after her success in stopping the Angels 8 Transient Riot. She gains (and loses) her first assistant since returning to the City, begins work towards finishing the first of two books she owes the Whorehopper, expounds on television (hates it), religion (hates it), and preservations of other cultures (actually doesn't hate it for once), and has a contract placed on her head by her ex-wife...who is currently a head frozen in a jar...even as she is simultaneously stalked by a sentient (and castrated) police dog who wishes revenge on Konata for the loss of his genitals. Just another day in the City.

Volume 3
The story really gets rolling as Konata starts to write in politics again, is forced to take on another assistant, resumes her drug binges of mythic proportions, and arouses the ire of various presidential candidates, one of whom orchestrates the assassination of someone Konata is growing to love...
