Watch ocarinahero10's two videos[hr]
I found this at Wikpedia
The creators maintain that the series has a set timeline, however due to debates over the available information the timeline continues to be disputed. Miyamoto stated in a 2003 interview that there is a master document detailing the timeline.[55] Eiji Aonuma has also stated in a July 2007 video interview that there is such a document on his PC, and that this document is considered confidential.[56] According to this interview, development of a Zelda title can commence without the team knowing in advance where exactly the title will fit into the timeline; but by the time the title is finished, its placement in the timeline will be determined.

Good thing I never got into the Zelda series or I would be pissed. Only game that I played and had a blast on was Windwaker.

It's similar as in the Fire Emblem series: The entire series is of relevance to an object called: The Fire Emblem, but the Fire Emblem itself is different for each of the games and a timeline would be hard or not possible to draw. The same for Link: There is a "Link" in all of the series, but there is a different "Link" in all of the games (except for those that are official sequels.).

it's not a joke, AVGN never jokes about video games unless there are shitty ones.

Is there anybody who believes LoZ HAS canon? I mean, they wavered in so many places. Firstly, on Link's handed-ness. IIRC, a couple early games had him right handed, he changed to left...then for TP, they made him Right Handed so kids wouldn't get confused swinging the Wiimote around.
In addition, if there is canon, doesn't that mean that Ganon/Ganondorf has more lives than a cat? I mean, seriously, either Link should actually just kill they guy. Also, what's all this "Get the Master Sword" junk then? Does he have a Bag of Spilling or something?

Ganondorf was never killed, only sealed away from Hyrule.
A sword through his head a couple of times is not enough to kill that guy.

Come over to Canada. I'll stick a sword through your head a few times, defeat your pig-form a few times, and let a castle fall on you.
Hope you can live through all that.

Okay, I know this is a 2 year old thread, but I figured this would be the most suitable place for this.
Ahem, Nintendo released on 23th of Des a Japanese-only book called Hyrule Historia (http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zelda-news/hyrule-historia-the-zelda-25th-anniversary-encyclopaedia-art-book/), and in it, we can find the official timeline given by Nintendo:

Pretty much what fans have thought all along really, but it is nice to get it confirmed.

does the timeline for Zelda really matter? I mean, it's not like the timeline has any impact on the storyline or anything. I just take each game as an individual game, with separate Links rescuing separate Zeldas with separate master swords. Sounds sort of like a multiverse.

It makes the whole thing more interesting if the games are interconnected. The overall story of Hyrule is quite interesting, and it is this story which makes all the story-telling worthwhile. Like the epic prologue of Wind Waker; had there been no interconnected story between the games, the prologue would have been nearly meaningless and far from epic/awesome. As well as Twilight Princess where the player is fed with incredible story-telling all through the game, making you yearning for the full story!

The "Ganon Sealed" feels like a bit of a cop out. I can understand that we can split into child and adult stories, but when could we assume Link only managed to seal him?

Pretty much when Link struck the Master Sword deep into his head. The Seven Sages sealed him into the Sacred Realm shortly after. Ganondorf was never killed in that game.
