I forgot what she does there. I'm waiting to hear Misao in both sequences she's in. I am NOT looking forward to Patty's lines in the first one, though. But... she's being mean to Cherry... soooooooo I guess it'll serve her right. :)

I was thinking, maybe they should turn pocket travellers into an anime, it would be so awsome, or maybe ryouou gakuen outousai.....even more awsome!!!!
Shiraishi-kun
07-14-2009, 09:58 PM
^ Pocket Travellers should be a series of OVAs, and Ryouou Gakuen Otosai should be a second series running in tandem with the second season of the main series.

I had an idea that it could be shown on SyFy, since it no longer strictly specializes in science fiction. And maybe it could run simultaneously with Haruhi Suzumiya airing on Adult Swim.
Yeah but for some reason, Adult Swim doesnt play anime anymore. Last time i watched Adult Swim was when they were airing Death Note.
But yeah, SciFi has that anime monday thing going on, and they aired Gurren Lagann a while back. Right now Anime Network with FOD is airing Azumanga Daioh and Clannad. I think Anime Network would have the greatest chances of airing Haruhi or Lucky Star.

Adult Swim still plays at least 7 titles! The catch- they're all shown only on Saturdays. :(
SyFy still sticks to science-fiction stories- I doubt they'd aquire Lucky Star.
Never had Anime Network. I DO have FUNimation, which can be very satisfying to watch until you begin to recognize all the voice actors in every single show, and that channel is very slow in adding new shows.
Shiraishi-kun
07-16-2009, 03:51 AM
They added Ouran, didn't they?
Hmm well im usually out saturday nights. I should go check which shows are airing. If i see naruto, no thanks lol.
Never heard of FUNimation having their own network.
Anime Network is only on the Free On Demand from Time Warner Digital Cable, at first Anime Network was only being aired in Hawaii (ithink) but it should be airing in other places. I looked at Anime Networks wiki and it says that its either free on demand or subscription on demand, but it seems most cable providers have it available.

Naruto's not on TV anymore, don't worry.
Thyey show Code Geass, Bleach, Death Note, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, InuYasha, The Big O, and Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit.

Yeah they axed televisionized Naturo and One Piece. :(
FUNimation's had a network for a long time, but people have somehow forgotten it. You can see some FULL EPISODES ONLINE on their own website! Their titles are vast in subject matter and genre too, including xxxHolic, Ouran High School Host Club, Mushishi, Peach Girl, Solty Rei, Tsubasa, Suzuka, Hunter X Hunter, Buso Renkin, Moonphase and BECK. They used to show Hare and Guu, but they pulled it off the air before I could get FUNImation. :(

And RIGHT WHEN Funimation got it and they were starting to get to the good part in the Skypiea arc, too!
(I'm intentionally avoiding talking about the L*S dub... for good reason: I hate it. Look at my dub vs. sub topic, first post)

I'm getting it for three reasons.
1. It's subbed, and I think the subs kick the sh*t outta the dub any day of the week.
2. I'm a Lucky Star fan and Lucky Star is my favorite anime. I'll get anything Lucky Star related, no matter the price.
3. I wanna show it to everyone at the anime club when school starts up.

No. ADR. That's a name for voice-over work to a piece of video that's already been recorded, and actors rerecord over that. It's a term used in the industry, and you see it used in the end credits of anime.

I think its even more stupid that it took them this long to release the ova... without a dub.

But the girl playing Konata in THIS one has a very unique voice that oddly suits her as well! :O You be the judge.

Got mine from amazon. best shipping price to hawaii ive ever seen, and it comes in super fast. cant wait for the higurashi complete boxset to get released. gonna get it from amazon too.
finally checked the extras. nothing special. has textless ending, trailers for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Haruhi Suzumiya, Kurakami, and The Third: The Girl With The Blue Eyes.
Now that I know it isn't dubbed, I wasn't expecting much else.
Who cares?! You got the OVA on DVD!!
But, yeah, I'd prefer it if BANDAI put a dub in future releases. Other people would like that.

Well I got my Lucky Star OVA: Original Video Animation and it's pretty good. But it preplexs me that they didn't include the English Dub and a decent amount of special features. It took them about five months to release the Lucky Star OVA: Original Video Animation and they didn't include the English Dub and any of decent special features. Well at least it's cheaper than the other Lucky Star DVDs and more expensive than the Lucky Star Manga.
They should've added the a English Dub right from the start. Also they should include some more interviews with the English Voice Actors of Lucky Star like Miyuki's Voice Actor and such. Also I think Bandai Entertainment where too busy making the front cover, back cover, and the disc design all nice. Also no Liner Notes like the previous Lucky Star DVDs. Which it's disappointing, but I get there's a Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei reference and a Sgt. Frog reference as well.

True but hey, people have different opinions of Anime.
I first saw FullMetal Alchemist on Adult Swim and i NEVER saw the Japanese dub of it. Same with Inuyasha and Case Closed. I never saw the Japanese dubs of those Anime but the English VA's for those Anime fit the characters well so i cant really say the Japanese dub is better. :p

Well, I had something similar. I actually saw the dub of an anime called Ouran High School Host Club first. Normally, when I see a dub and then a sub, it takes me only a few minutes to mentally adjust myself to the Japanese cast. However, with Ouran, I couldn't STAND the Japanese voices (all except for Hunny-sempai) and I never got used to them. (Tamaki stood out: Vic just comes off as such a superior character). One thing I hate about fandubbers though. They don't put enough power in their voice when the character is supposed to be yelling something. They try to emulate the yelling sound while being quiet by having a low-sounding breathy voice. It just sounds like a kindergartner doing an impersonation of a man falling from a cliff.

To people who doesn't like subs:
In animes like Lucky Star, Clannad and TMoHS (slice of life-animes), there is not much action, often a still picture with only one mouth moving. You've got plenty of time to read the subtitles without missing anything.

I'm not a major defender of dubs (I'll bounce back and force depending on the show), but some subbed shows have lines that are too long. Especially because of the difference in language. For example, translating the phrase "Fly over the impossible" is a much longer phrase in Japanese IIRC than it is in English. Often, this goes the opposite direction. One paticular memory that comes to mind for me is the Adventure of Mikuru (TMoHS). It was near impossible to keep up with all the reading.
Alternatively, subs are really bad if there are lots of characters talking at once.
I'm not suprised the OVA wasn't dubbed. The last part (With LIVE people) would be near impossible to dub.

That's because that was money-worthy.
I'm sure the company believed bringing over big name VAs like Wendee Lee, Kari Wahlgren, and Michelle Ruff out, and paying them (fairly) big bucks to act one (fine, the legnth of 2) eisode wasn't worth it. The extra money they predicted they gained wouldn't make up the cost of hauling them all over. Alternatively, they turned the company down.

..... hmmm, actually that does make sense. Why WOULDN'T they use our own honorifics?!

They keep the honorifics because if they were to take it out it would lose some of its context and meaning.
Take for example when Misao addresses Kagami by Hiiragi, but Konata addresses her by Kagami. This shows that Konata has a closer relationship to Kagami than Misao.
And I think the point of the dub is so that it could be understood in english, not really make everything english and use english pop culture references.
But I admit, the first time I ever heard honorifics in a dub I was confused (FLCL), but after learning more about Japanese culture it all fell together.

That's not really honorifics, that's just different people using different name, which you could get anywhere.
Yeah but in Japanese culture its considered very rude to address someone by their first name if you dont know them very well.

But still, "onee-chan" doesn't fit in the English language. Just use "(big) sister".

Wouldn't adding -san (-sama for very formal) to the end of a person's surname (generally) denote formality instead?

all the prefixes and suffixes just don't fit in the English version
akira-sama can be miss akira.

I prefer keeping the honorifics, as long as their pronounced right.
It's "chan" with a slightly soft "a", not "Chauwn"
"San" with a slightly soft "a" and not "Sawn" (makes it sound like a slasher show)
You get the idea...

The voice actors (in LS anyways) are saying the Japanese words unamerican, and that's good, but I think when they speak English, don't drag in foreign words out of nowhere, especially when there are English words for those foreign words.

Hiiragi sounds like Michelle Ruff, such a beautiful voice. Now if only she had feeling.

I knew you'd come for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee love.
That's just as cute as in the original!!
Thats a pretty good dub, but I agree, Kagami needs more feeling. I was starting to pick up a Nagato vibe.

Me too. Her voice sounds a lot like Michelle Ruff's, which is a compliment because it's so silky smooth, but it doesn't quite fit Kagami.
