First things first: I failed pretty epicly at setting this up.
2nd things....2nd...: We need someone who fails considerably less than I do to take my position! :D LSSF Minecraft now hiring! :D Be the guy who made K_I_M's server hosting skills look pathetic!

I think you should tell the IP only to people who ask it via private message, to avoid trolls and other problem.

Once you start excluding people, it stops becoming the LSSF minecraft server and just becomes the owner's super special private server.

I don't HAVE the IP >.> Terboh and I tried to set this up, and failed. So we were taking volunteer's to try their hands at it.

What you would really need is a dedicated machine, either bought from a minecraft server hoster or owned. I will configure the server/install mods if you want them.

Lol. A Wild Watchitaa appeared..... :P

As for ... that. It seems hard work O.o

The part that we need is just the owning a dedicated machine we could use.

I haven't run a Minecraft server in some time, but I do have a spare computer that could be used for server hosting.

I'll work on setting up and testing it to see if it works. I shall post again if I have success/failure.

Please do. Can't wait!

And I'm back!

Results:
The computer I was going to use did not have enough memory to host a server at all, and it cannot be used.

Until somebody is able to host a dedicated server, I can host one on my main computer for a good portion of the day, 12-14 hours without much trouble.

As of right now, the server is up. IP:
24.12.225.117

^works good, can't place blocks yet though, but it works!

That should be fixed now.

On another note, please tell me if you are getting really bad lag, as I'll see what I can do make the server run faster.

Did you run the server from gui? You can run out of a lot of memory that way. If you're not using the old computer at all, I would recommend installing linux for a faster speed (if it is not already installed)

Hit Windows + R and type cmd to load the command line, and type/paste this in

java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

Tell me if it works. If you need any help just PM me.

Yeah, I've been running it from gui, but interestingly enough, there's been a surprising lack of lag, at least on my side, despite running the server and being in it at the same time. In fact, I've had record high fps while doing this.

I also tried entering that command, but there was an error with my 64-bit Java. It appears there's a missing file. I'll have to reinstall at some point.

Were you in the same directory as the server?
I don't know where you start on windows, but typing pwd should tell you which directory you are in, and if say you put the server in a folder on your desktop, you would type something like 'cd /desktop/minecraft' before you type the command. You should try that command on the old comp.

I'm pretty sure it was in the correct directory, but I'll try again to make sure. I'll also go ahead and see if my old computer will comply with that command.

What OS is the older machine?

Gondolin

Good 'ol XP.

It should be able to run the server without any memory problems

Gondolin

Ah well. The current server at least works, so I can't complain.

For those wondering what time the server will be up, it will be up from:
(11:00[AM]-12:00[Noon]) to (2:00[AM]-4:00[AM]) U.S. Central Standard Time (The time in Chicago, Mexico City, etc.)

This schedule is temporary, and 2 major changes are in the foreseeable future.
1) I will be vacationing in Michigan early next month for a week, so expect downtime
2) When school starts up, I won't be home until 16:00-17:00 (4PM-5PM) This will be in late August.

So for now, I bid all interested to join the server at this address:
24.12.225.117

Thank you for reading, and happy Minecrafting!

I would try the command on the old computer. If it still goes too slow, either delete some programs off of it (unless you are still using it) or install linux. I would try the first option, well, first, because java can be hard to get working on linux sometimes. If you hosted it from the older computer there could be no down times, and it wouldn't take up a chunk of the computer actually in use :)

I'll configure it on the old comp this afternoon and see how it goes. If any problems arise, I'll let you know.

Aww man, what should I do? When it's 11 AM in your country it's 11 PM in my country, sorry guys but I can't make it ><.

Gondolin

Hopefully this won't be a problem. If I can get the dedicated computer up and running, then we shall have no problem.

Edit: Well, the server is up on the old computer- I just can't connect to it. The connection keeps timing out. I'm thinking it has something to do with trying to connect from a different machine on the same network- but I don't know.
