I'm surprised no one have made this a topic to this epic manga yet...Yotsuba needs luv too!!!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3a/Yotsuba_vol1_cover.jpg
Yotsuba&! is centered on Yotsuba Koiwai, a five-year-old adopted girl who is energetic, cheerful, curious, odd, and quirky—so odd and quirky that even her own father calls her strange. She is also initially ignorant about many things a child her age would be expected to know, among them doorbells, escalators, air conditioners, and even playground swings. This naiveté is the premise of humorous stories where she learns about, and frequently misunderstands, everyday things.

At the start of the series, Yotsuba and her adoptive father, Koiwai, relocate to a new city with the help of Koiwai's best friend, an impressively tall man nicknamed Jumbo. Yotsuba makes a strong impression on the three daughters of the neighboring Ayase family, Asagi, Fuka, and Ena, and many of her misadventures come from her interactions with them.

The series has no continuing plot—the focus of the stories is Yotsuba's daily voyage of discovery. Many chapters take place on successive days, so that the series follows, almost literally, the characters' daily lives. The tone can be summarized by the motto, used on chapter title pages and advertising, "Today is always the most enjoyable day" (????????????????, Itsu de mo ky? ga, ichiban tanoshii hi).

So is any love gonna be giving to Yotsuba? (In other words....comment! x3)

I was about to post the link to the copy of Vol. 2 on eBay for $160, but the seller apparently cut down the price. Now it's only $60.

The popular English-language imageboard 4chan, which is known in Japanese as "Yotsuba Channel", adopted Yotsuba Koiwai as an official mascot: the site logo and icon at one point consisted of four leaves positioned identically to her distinctive four green pigtails, and she appears in the HTTP 404 message (leading to the nickname of "404 Girl"), banned user messages, banner ads, and logos. The software the site runs on is code-named Yotsuba.

This, along with Lucky Star, acts sortof like a cheer-up manga/anime for me. (I said anime because Lucky Star is both)

I didnt realize that vol 2 was very hard to come by. i think theyre gonna re-release it, along with finally releasing vol 6.

i managed to find one on ebay for 18 shipped. the shipping for priority mail costs more than what i paid for it. but im not waiting up to 21 days for a damn book.

i bought vol 5 and just finished it. i really enjoy this series and would recommend it to anyone. theres just no way you can read this and not laugh or at the very least, crack a smile.

ADV, the guys who were originally bringing Yotsuba& (as well as Azumanga) to America, cut down on their Anime and Manga division, and Yotsuba& was one of the casulties.
Fortunatly, the Yen Press has picked it up, are releasing the new volumes and rereleasing the old ones (along with Azumanga).

Is it really a reference? Isn't it fairly common?

Supernova141
07-08-2009, 12:56 AM
Nope, Yotsuba began publishing in march of 2003, lucky star began airing April 8, 2007. =\

EDIT: @VK- Well if it was any other anime i'd think that, but LS is full of references, and Yotsuba is one of the most popular manga.

Plus, she says the name twice, give a wink and a thumbs up, and says "good job". All of that is a bit specific.

VK-Skelton

Chapter 26 would probably have been out sometime in 2005, and if it's from the L*S manga, it would be hard to tell. I maintain that they're unrelated.

So Yotsuba is the mastermind behind /b/, yes it all makes sence now.

Yotsuba&! is a Manga created by Kiyohiko Azuma, who also made Azumanga Daioh. Yotsuba&! was once licensed by ADV Manga and published five volumes of the manga, but then Yen Press took over the rights and rereleased the first five volumes and adding the sixth volume. Yotsuba&! ran from 2003 and still running up to this very day with eight volumes released over Japan.

Yotsuba&! won many awards and recognitions and it got postive reviews. There are no plans for a Yotsuba&! Anime as of now, but Azuma said there were no plans for it to be animated; he reiterated this 5 December 2008, claiming that the stories and style of Yotsuba&! are not well-suited for animation.

I read manga volumes 3 and 4 of this over in Arizona at my library. I love Yotsuba&!

...it's sorta like a cheer-up manga for me.

But I disagree with the manga creator. Yotsuba is perfectly suited for anime. Just give it to Kyoto Animation, like Kagami Yoshimizu did with Lucky Star, they'll whip something good up in no time.

I also think Yostuba& is perfectly suited for an anime adaption. It would be Slice of life/Comedy of course. But the company to animate would have to be one that sticks very closely to the original art work style. I think SHAFT would be suited pretty damn good for this series.

I'll add my "third" to a vote for animating Yotsuba & ! and to disagreeing with Mr. Kiyohiko about its suitability for the medium. Yotsuba is PERFECTLY suited to animation. One wonders if Mr. Kiyohiko had a bad experience with Azumanga Daioh?

So, a new company picked up Yotsuba and is re-printing the manga, along with new ones.

Do the re-prints have a different translation or is it exactly the same as ADV Mangas, word for word?

I was thinking of buying the re-prints to have in my manga collection, but I'm not too sure, although I'll DEFIANTLY get the newest releases.

I just read the first volume.

Like many of KyoAni's titles (I know this is not one, but it would rock if they adapted it), Yotsuba&! is something you should not set your expectations high towards. The girl is a joy to watch, and she's unstoppable. I hope she grows up to be like that.
