Transformers: Dark of the Moon is an upcoming 2011 science-fiction action film directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. It is the final installment in Michael Bay's three-film Transformers series, which started with 2007's Transformers and continued with 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

This is the plot synopsis according to Wikipedia.
When the war on Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons appears lost to the Autobots, their leader, Sentinal Prime, attempts to launch the Ark from their planet, containing technology that could have saved his people. Attacked by Starscream, it crashes on Earth's moon in 1961. President John F. Kennedy makes his famous promise to the nation to put a man on the moon. The 1969 NASA moon landing is actually an investigation of the wrecked spacecraft.

As Sam Witwicky goes into adulthood and tries to move on from Mikaela, the Autobots are busy as they learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft on the Moon and must race against the Decepticons to find it and learn its secrets, which could turn the tide in the Transformers' final battle.

The film's theme song, in fitting with the previous films' trend of using Linkin Park songs, will use the new single "Iridescent" as its theme song. The following is the official "Iridescent" music video from Linkin Park's official YouTube channel, featuring footage from Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Michael Bay has stated that this film will be darker and more serious than the previous two, and will tie up loose ends from the previous two installments. The focus of this film is on the robots as opposed to the humans, and will thus be more action-oriented. Bay has also stated that he has taken Revenge of the Fallen's critical lambasting to heart, and promises that this new film will be far better. The first review of the film from Ain't It Cool News backs up Bay's claim, calling it "the best entry in the Michael Bay-directed franchise".

I am psyched as all hell for this movie. I expect it to be very much worth the price of admission. What are your thoughts?

Never liked Transformers, I'll end up going for the explosions, and whatever Hot Female Lead this one has.

Is it just me. Or, Dark of the Moon is a lame subtitle. Anyways, I'm going to see the movie.....in 2D!

Given that the reviews of the first couple were pretty bad, it really isn't much of an achievement.

I'll be waiting until later to be deciding whether or not it's worth rental money. There's virtually no chance I'll see it in theatres unless it does surprisingly amazing, like X-Men First Class.

Actually, the reviews for #1 ranged from good to average, which is standard for a popcorn action flick. The second film was pretty much considered shit by everyone. This third one is said to be a bit harder on the sci-fi and have a much deeper plot than the first two.

To me, most "popcorn" movies aren't worth the admission ticket for.

This isn't intended to be a popcorn film like the first two. It's intended to be an "end of an era" style of movie. An action flick to end all action flicks, if you will. Everyone on board has said that no punches are being pulled, nothing is being half-assed, there is some serious effort going into all parts of the film, and everyone is making sure that this film is done right. Shia LeBeouf has been quoted as calling the film "the craziest action movie ever made". They know that a lot is riding on this movie, and they're making sure that the audience is not let down. They do NOT want a second Revenge of the Fallen.

Uh huh...and the "increased action" reflects it being less of a popcorn show, huh?

The Room was a "no holds bared" film with what I assume is Wiseau. Doesn't make it any better.

They didn't want to make a FIRST Revenge of the Fallen. There's no guarantee it'll be any good and I haven't seen enough to put blind faith into it.

Do the Transformers movies have an actual following? o_0?
I knew the Franchise did, but everyone I asked only went to see it because of Megan Fox....>.>

You're obviously only asking the Lowest Common Denominator.

Not really. Aside from standard fare robot action, the use of the Transformers name, and a 'Rah rah" US military attitude, there really isn't much to claim as its own.

It had entirely new technology created just to get the robots to transform, it has one of the best movie soundtracks in years, and it was key in revitalizing the stagnating Transformers franchise. You forgot those, too.

But I agree. The first few films didn't have much in the way of plot. If you're looking for a Transformers series with a good plot, Beast Wars: Transformers and Transformers: Prime are excellent.

I missed the 1st, yeah...but the 2nd is completely overshadowed purely by Zimmer's existance and the 3rd isn't really too active. A single series (the big money thing for the franchise. Games seem to be negligible) came from it and, from what I understand, has limited fans at best.

Transformers has a lot more fans than you think.

So there's going to be giant monsters, giant explosions, screaming main character, generic love interest, and an asshole who nearly causes everything to go to sh*t but it works out in the end.

Every Michael bay film ever.

Yeah. Michael Bay has a horrible track record with movies. Outside Transformers, the only decent movie he's ever directed was The Rock...and that was mostly salvaged because of Connery.

The actors are a major problem, without a doubt. It's almost eye gouging between Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox...who share maybe one good role between the two of them (Labeouf in Indiana Jones...and that's debatable as it seems that they made the role because Ford is just getting too old for the stunts).

Early reviews are in. It's tracking at ~35% approval, lower than the 2007 Transformers (57%), but above Revenge of the Fallen (20%).

Sounds like a rental show...currently not worth the $13 dollar admission to theatres for me by a good margin.

It's a Michael Bay Transformers movie, and it's better than Revenge of the Fallen. That's all I need to hear, and it's all I asked for.

Michael Bay can consider my $10+ his.

If I want a deeper, more complex and cerebral Transformers, I'll go and watch Transformers: Prime or Beast Wars. But now, all I want is to see robots kicking major ass.

Though I do have to warn you that almost every reviewer is giving it scathing reviews, even when measured as a "popcorn film". And getting reviews above Revenge of the Fallen is like managing not to gag on your own drool in the morning.

Guess who predicted it? Though...like getting above Revenge of the Fallen, getting this part right is basically being able to not roll 1s.

Ouch. Apparently Decipticons decided to not bring their A game again...I mean...:
I just watched it...don't even know what to say.

I don't know if anyone built models of Japanese mecha when they were kids, but I did and one of the most memorable things about those was the knockoffs. You see, there was the actual brand, Bandai, who used high quality plastics and had really well designed moulds that you could build into really neat models. Then you had the Taiwanese knockoff...Bendi, they used cheap plastic, it was flimsy, and the moulds were all off. As a result the Bandai models would actually stand up to quite a bit of abuse, whereas if you looked at the Bendi models wrong they would fall apart. Why am I bringing this point up? Because clearly whoever decided to construct the Transformers for the movie hired Bandai to build the Autobots and with the leftover change commissioned Bendi to slap together something resembling a Decepticon.

I find it completey unfathomable that there was ever a war for Cybertron. Essentially, through the course of three movies the amount of Autobot deaths can be counted on one hand...the Deception casualties number in the hundreds, possibly thousands. So, I'm assuming the Decepticons were actually some uprising from the poor, lower class who didn't really have much, are malnourished and just want a loaf of bread every now and again. The Autobots are clearly some monarchist dictatorship that rule as overlords over the poor peasant Decepticons. That would explain why the Autobots are seemingly impervious to damage and you could take down a Decepticon with a medium sized rock. Seriously, essentially 8 Autobots and a random scattering of (compared to the Decepticons) mouse sized humans defeated legions about legions of Decepticons. You're telling me there was a war? You sure it wasn't some sort of brutal massacre?

See, I actually somewhat enjoyed the first one. Yes, there was too much focus on Shia Lawhatever, but at least they made a point of making the Decepticons a formidable force. The opening scene with Blackout decimating an entire army base? Awesome. Since then, the army has apparently hacked physics and enabled invincibility. Freakin' brutal. I hate you Michael Bay, I hate you so, so much.

Interesting argument that I've heard about the entire series: Bay's Transformers are something of a "Dancing Bear" - Nobody cares about how well it's dancing...but the fact that it's dancing is enough reason to see it. In this case, nobody cares how poor a director Bay is, it's just that state-of-the-art CGI is being applied to Transformers.

By the time the 2nd came around, nobody cared that there were cool 'splosions and more fighting...it was already done. Bay's poor script and characterization was exposed. It sounds like this time, Bay pulled out all the stops, but the same problem exists because the nice CGI effects have been already done and there's nothing new to distract people from his poor script.

EDIT - Oh, and like the original, he seems to be using scenes from his older shows. This time, many of his shots are complete replicates from "The Island"
