Why is Lucky Star in widescreen?
It's not that epic or dramatic than the other productions KyoAni produced. Plus, it has twice as many episodes as K-On! and (currently) Haruhi Suzumiya! They probably saw the irony in it.

I don't know, all I know is it fits perfectly on my monitor.

I hate it when everybody thinks it is supposed to be in 4:3. Almost all youtube clips of LS are in 4:3 and they look like tall anorectic girls.

It's in Widescreen because that's how things are done now. The vast majority of people in the USA and Japan are purchasing the higher-end and best widescreen and HD Televisions, so a lot of shows (anime included) has to upgrade to keep up with the times.
But why are you bitching about the aspect ratio? L*S's a great show, so why should you care how it fits on your screen?

I'm not complaining, but I'm more perplexed by it. Why Lucky Star? I would think that's the last choice to produce something like that in widescreen. Apparently, K-On! is even shown in widescreen now on a network other than TBS.

Well, it shouldn't matter. I don't see why you're "perplexed" by it (I prefer the term "confused"). Besides,I just forget it's in widescreen the moment the opening starts. Now I just expect every anime I watch post-2003 to be in widescreen (Even Bleach and One Piece have taken residence in widescreen-land), and take things as they go. Besides, Widescreen allows for more footage to be onscreen at one time,so you get more for the same price of a fullscreen DVD is you're getting it like that.
