Talk about your Army's, Tactics, and Individual Units, Heck Talk About anything in the 40k universe!
So I'll Start with asking about how you use Dedicated Transports!

My friend and I love to play 2v2. He's Tao and uses massive clumps of Fire Warrors and the mech suits (Forgot its name). Literally, his plan is to shoot and run. And it works when he lets me borrow his Guard army, which is minimal infantry (LOL) and an entire array of big guns.
Question is: If/when I get the money to buy my own stuff, should I get the Guard, or should I try the close range Tyranids?

I say you should go Guard, the close Range Tyranids are nice but with enough fire power in the right place the main mass of troops while be picked off before they can reach Enemy lines, and your Friend's hit and run tactics would leave your army a disorganized band of small clumps of survivors after he Uses hit-and0runs to kill the leaders. With Guard you can employ tanks to actively hunt him down ;)

'kay. Now, the second part of this question: Mass infantry, Tank Rush, or a mix? My personal favourite style ATM would be a lot of Regulars and Basilisks for Russian-esc strategies.

A mix, The russian style thing sounds interesting, I gtg to school so I'll post more latter!

I personally like to play my army as small and highly elite, it saves money and I win majority of my games I even got the finals of the last 2 tournaments I've been to. :D
Edit: The last tournament was 1000points kill points only and I fielded this army and reached the top 3. (I lost due on points because the 3 finalist had won all of our 5 games so it came down to how ''fluffy'' your army is and how fair it is to play against and I scored very low in these due to the fact my army is horribly cheesy.)
HQ
Abbadon-275points
Daemon Prince
-Wings
-Slaanesh
-Lash of Submission
Total-155points
Greater Daemon-100points
Troops
5 Chaos Space Marines-75points
Melta Gun
Champion
Total-110points
6 Chaos Space Marines-100points
Melta Gun
Rhino
Total-135points
Heavy Support
Land Raider-220
-Extra Armor
Total-235points
1000points
Although I don't really enjoy 40k as much as I used to do, the 5th edition really screwed it up allot. I play allot more fantesy now, I have 2000points of dwarfs, 2000points of Vampire Counts and about 1000points of Orcs and Goblins. I buy the majority of my models on Ebay so its normally allot cheaper and allows me to have this many armies lol.

That Chaos squad suffers a lot of damage against LR attacks. I mean, the Tao's Crisis Suits, Broadsides, and a Hammerhead would probably walk right over it.
Also, that Land Raider seems outta place. Land Raiders suffer from weak side armour IIRC (Either that or the Predator, I forget which). Small squad sizes mean it could be easily flanked.

Land raiders are 14 armor all round and with the new rules you pretty always have a 4+ cover save (rhino sheild lol) An you know the chaos marines are only there because they have to be and I've pretty much got a guanteed turn one assault, this is because of the daemon princes power lash, it allows me to move a enermy unit 2d6 any way I like =D.

He's Got a point ya know. -_- But anyway On the Mass Infantry if you go with that make sure to have some heavy weps available or else that small Elite Army WILL pwn you. I've even seen Mass Tanks being played, During my local store's Apocalypse Games (I watched a few from the sidelines) But a mix is the way to go IMO, The Russian Style thing would work as well, but if your Artillery gets destroyed your going to need to dig your Infantry in in and try to survive the rest of the Game.

Ooh. Bad call for me (I just remember my friend, with one attack, and completely destroyed a Chaos armour).

Th only armies I'd be scared of with this strategy are the Tao (Who could easily fire the Hammerhead's Railgun and destroy it), Tyranid (Who easily go 1 for 1 with the IG in combat), and Eldar (Who have those nice siege weapons). I'd probably take a couple elites as well. Unfortunately, that leaves me with a hole again. If I'm playing 2v2, then I'd probably take Stormtroopers as I'll have most my guys on the front lines. However, if I ever play alone, I'd probably want Snipers, as they can take out tough infantry relatively well. Opinion?

But...but...I love their Valkyries. Transport, gunship, and fast. That has to count somewhere.

There's a Warhammer 40k game for DS? And There really is a sense of reality in Warhammer! Strategy's from this era are just as effective![hr]

Well for the that you would use the new Line of site riles and make sure the artillery is well hidden, set up a parameter with a few Tank buster teams and thats solved,
Tyranid (Who easily go 1 for 1 with the IG in combat)
Use your massed infantry to mow the down while thinning their numbers with arty support.
and Eldar (Who have those nice siege weapons)
Can't help you there =[

Problem then is: Crisis suits. (Flies overhead). Oh f***.
Use your massed infantry to mow the down while thinning their numbers with arty support.
And all the surviving ones turn my grunts into shredded wheat. IIRC, Tyranid have a ~40% chance of killing an IG, while IG have a ~25-30% chance of killing. That...and Hormaguants.
Random thought: I suffer "clutch roll failure". All the important rolls I generally need...I fail.

Ok, if you have a heavy weapons team you can shoot the Hormaguants while they are in QCB
Problem then is: Crisis suits. (Flies overhead). Oh f***.
If I'm not mistaken They have to wait a turn after flying to shoot, Use those tank hunters!'
Oh and i've been playing for about 3 years, (Started playing with my cousin at about 10, I used his old models, Now I'm 13 so yeah )

Well, again, the problem with Crisis suits is that you generally don't get very many anti-tank weapons. And Crisis suits (from what I remember) are dedicatedly tough. I remember a couple times, we've won purely on the use of Crisis Suits and Hammerheads, each getting roughed up a lot (Granted the hammerhead never got its railgun blown off). The Crisis suits that I probably would see (4-6 all at once) could probably just take it. Literally. And then get right through. And at that distance, I don't want to risk shooting the Basilisk.
Hm...maybe 2 Basilisks and 1 Leman Russ?
Also, fast attack options. Tanks...or Valkyrie?
Konata_is_Mine
06-02-2009, 11:31 PM
Hmmm Yeah a Leman Russ or 2 might Holde em' off, and for Fast attack you should use sentinels (Also great for guarding Baskalisks) or Valkyries
