View Full Version : The Boondocks
I mean the one that's in Cartoon Network Adult Swim since I found out there's two Boondocks. I startled watching this last month and I really like it because it's so funny and the story just pulls me in. It's one of those shows that would make me stop everything I'm doing just to watch this. It's strange that there's this fat black guy who likes white people and hates black people. The Boondocks startled as a comic before being a TV show. The show is not for kids, just to warn any under age members.

Haha, 'tis a funny show. Although I rarely watch it, when I do, it's a good time.

This show is hilarious. I only saw one episode, the one where they kidnap Bill Cosby... but then return him because he was too annoying. And they fight Bushido Brown which made me lol.

It feels like one of those shows that tries to be vulgar just because it can. I just can't get in to it at all.

this show is pure racist shit.
Sorry for bumping, but please allow me to disengage this post. =P
First of all, I am a big Boondocks fan, both comic and the show. It first appeared in my newspaper around in 2000, and I was automatically hooked, even as a kid since I got an interest for politics back then (And trust me, creator Aaron McGruder bashed George Bush and Condoleeza Rice ALOT). As I grew older, I knew more about the jokes the strip was trying to tell, and I always laugh my ass off when I read a "Boonie".
Ok, now onto the quote.
The Boondocks was not made to be racist at all. In fact, it's actually trying to point out the comical sense of racism, and how stupid people can be if they're in front of a black or even white person. Sure, you can argue that they say N**** a lot, but that doesn't necessarily make the show racist. The point of the show is to mock taboo issues like Rap, gang violence, drugs, racism, sexuality, etc. Let me quote something from McGruder's book All The Rage on the race issue specifically:
INTERVIEW - CBS NEWS
Kauffman: Race is such a touchy issue. Do you think humor is a good way to address it?
McGruder: I think it is. I think it-it allowes people to sort of let their guard down and-and rethink some issues. Certainly, it's been done effectively by stand-up comics such as, uh, Chris Rock and Richard Pryor, you know, have-have addressed race in a-I think, in a different way. I'm just doing it as a different medium. I merely don't use the "N-word" or cracker because I can, I merely use those to seek out and mock the character's personalities on the race issues. This, uh, in a way, like I said, makes the readers approach the issue in a sort of comedic yet serious manner.
Trust me, a lot of people have called the show racist, but that's merely not the case. Just because the N-word is used a lot does not make it a "shitty racist show". It just merely points out the personality of the issue at hand and also the characters.

I saw this on TV when I was a little younger. At that time, I didn't really care for it all that much, but still watched a few episodes here and there. I'm gonna watch this again one day, now that I'm a little older.

FYI, Season 3 is probably the best episodes I've seen currently. If you guys didn't like Seasons 1 or 2, definitely get 3 a chance.
I just laugh when they say the N word because the way they say it is funny. There was a new episode that shown Ruckus's family and his history. It turns out that the reason why Ruckus hated black people was because his fake dad hated white people and treated him badly. He's gonna like both now. :)

Meh, I liked Ruckus better when he was a self-hating black guy. =P
I just realized something weird about the Ruckus episode. Ruckus has white hair like an old man and his fake mother has blond hair and Ruckus is suppose to be WAY younger than her. That's unless she died her hair yellow.
I like the opening song.

Love the show, especially because Riley and Huey remind me so much of my two cousins who are brothers also. One is the "odd" child, and the other is a young money obsessed wanna be hood boy. I love it. My mom started watching it because of the exact same reason.
My favorite episode is the one with the fat boy that thinks killing and hurting people is the coolest thing in the world and forcing Rally to do the stuff he wants to do with him.
