Minoru Shiraishi, the voice actor of the character by the same name in Lucky Star, will be launching a spinoff series of live-action TV shorts called Lucky Racer on April 2. Shiraishi will compete in cart-racing with the staff and voice cast of the anime, and the winners can then debut products or publicize themselves.

Lucky Racer will run within the Seitokai no Ichizon anime's timeslot when the BS11 broadcast satellite channel runs that anime on Fridays at midnight. The Kadokawa Anime Channel will then start streaming each Lucky Racer episode on Saturday, April 3.

You've obviously never driven a gocart before. It takes a fair about of upper body strength to turn the wheel (go carts have no power steaing) so Minoru would have the advantage there.

@ TL: I have and I'll one-up that: my screen name comes from my involvement in SCCA Formula Vee racing. I went as far as buying a Vee and going through an SCCA Competition School (a double-school extended weekend: 6 hours of seat time over 3 days) 2 years ago.

[the net result: I found out I don't like Racing. Racing means Crashing - or, more precisely, BEING Crashed -- and I can't take that, financially or otherwise]

A Vee weighs 1025 lbs. (465Kg) minimum with driver, and, as you may've surmised by now, has no power steering.

You're point about steering effort is valid, but I believe she could handle the short-term exertion well enough, whereas the weight differential will play hugely in her favor.

A new track, a drier track (but not completely dry) and some experience from the last 2 events added up to better racing. A couple spins (Don't lift in a corner!!!) but they're getting used to it; one recovered quickly enough to hold position. Some actual Good Racing going on toward the end.

(Oh Ghod. I just realized. I used to write little amateur race reports for the Formula Vee races I attended as a spectator and watching that Lucky Racer kicked that old RaceReportingGene into action again! Mw'haw!)

OMG! LUCKY STAR TRADING CARDS! I GOTTA COLLECT THEM ALL!

From what I can tell, it looks like a card game with seven "locations" (shrine, school, Minami's house, Gamers, summer fireworks show, arts festival/cheerleading dance, and another one I can't make out). Each "location" card has some of the characters in the outfits for those locations (shrine maiden, schoolgirl, store clerk, kimono, cheerleader, casual clothes/interacting with Cherry-chan, and I don't know the last one). I also see a Lucky Channel wild card.

I'm guessing it's similar to Uno or some other card game. It seems like a nice counterpart to the Haruhi karuta in Lucky Racer 1.

All these karts have governors on the motors to keep top speeds down, buuuutttt it looked like the one kart had a little more governor on it than the rest (like, he was the one that started on the pole, got away quickest but was caught by the 1st turn *ahem*). Oh well.

As for this week's product: a HaruhiSuzumiya FernandesZO3 travel guitar? Amusing. $500? For not much more, you could buy an Italia Mondial Woody (aka Mondial 2), the instrument used as a model for the guitar Haruhi plays in the "Live Alive" performances (but it ain't Haruhi-branded). Don't know if either one is any good or not.

Personally, I'd want the Lucky Racer T-shirt and/or the poster!

Woahhh! BIG upgrade to the show! New Opening visuals! A list of show sponsors longer than most anime have! New graphics! Points for finishing position! Qualifying times for grid position!

The karts look rougher and they trail of blue smoke out the exhausts, but to me that means they're closer to Real Race Karts. The venue reminds me of the old road course I've got 'round here: NelsonLedges. Ain't pretty but it's Where You Race.

And, we have our first DNF (Did Not Finish). It's Minoru Shiraishi! LOL!

Finally: that Figma of the 12-year-old Bamboo-Leaf-Rhapsody Haruhi! Love how it comes with 2 facial expressions: Haruhi PO'ed ... and Haruhi PO'ed and talking. That FIGMA will be soooo rare. THAT's one you buy and stash away unopened, to re-sell in a year when its value appreciates 300%.

Today's venue, Sakai Kart Land, looks old (grass growing up through cracks in the macadam) but the karts tell the story: they look rough and have 2-stroke motors, which means they're closer to real race karts.

Not a bad little race. These guys are actually getting better as the show's season progresses.

This was show #8. I think we're missing #7? I'll have to check the old thread and see.
