Lucky Star has finally had the unwelcome honour of being ripped off for use on a Chinese commercial.

Admittedly, about the only surprising thing about this is that it took so long.

Chinese otaku are apparently disgusted (http://www.sankakucomplex.com/goto/http://blog.livedoor.jp/kashikou/archives/51394925.html), but it seems no amount of disgust, internal or external, will discourage China from doing what it apparently does best.

Lol, China and their rip-offs.

You're sure they didn't get permission from KyoAni to use L*S in their commercial ~nyaa-nyaa?

Two questions popped up for me:
1) Did they pay for it? If so, then it's not a ripoff and otakus are overreacting.
2) Why should I care? They use licensed characters without permission, they get sued. That is, if it even was without permission.

Yyyeahhh, otakus tend to take anything anime-related overly seriously ~nyaa-nyaa >_<

What are they advertising?

Please, I have a hard enough time figuring out what English commercials are advertising.

But it sure knows how to protect itself from its own people opposing China. Students doing peacefully demonstrations? Roll the tanks over them. Monks from Tibet sitting quietly and say what they mean? Beat them down.

Not to turn this into a philisophical debate, but how else do you control such a large population? Starve them like India? Not to mention a vast majority of Chinese people in China are perfectly fine with the situation.

It's my personal opinion that China has no other method of retaining control of itself without plunging into civil war or starving people. Nor any other country that size and that diverse for the matter.

And, yes, China has very lax intelectual property laws.

What's next a Lucky Star pirate video game for the Famicom made by some no good people who has nothing else to do but make bad games.

No, they also ripped off Byousoku 5cm to make their own movie. They've done this quite often, but nothing can seem to stop them... The same when they make figures, etc. that aren't official, hence why you usually see a shiny little square sticker on figurines that show they're authentic.

But I guess there's not much anyone can do about it.

Why must something like democracy (as an example) be the same as civil war or starvation when introduced in a large populated country? Killing everyone who peacefully mentions that there are perhaps other ways of ruling a country, is not obligatory to keep peace. If done gradually, China can have elections, personal freedom and such.

The reason for the vast majority of Chinese people being fine with the situation is that they simply don't know better. The Chinese government practically brainwash the inhabitants from the day they are born.

Thats not your fault, neither does anyone else.

The first TiVo commercial I saw was a sideshot of a kid watching TV, not moving. Then it said "TIVO." I, and I'm not joking, honestly guessed that the most likely thing they were selling was a drug to treat A.D.D.

The funniest thing the chinese copied was a Boeing airplane. Except the got the weight of the rivets wrong for the exoskeleton of the plane, so they got it upto 130mph on a runway and it wouldn't take off, hehe.

For one, it's difficult to do. What most people fail to remember is the fact that Democracy in its early years, when reborn in modern countries, was terrible. It was basically either anarchy or government crackdowns. As China is going through its effectively required economic expansion, doing that would easily plunge China into its dark years of the '70s.

The reason for the vast majority of Chinese people being fine with the situation is that they simply don't know better. The Chinese government practically brainwash the inhabitants from the day they are born.
Not at all. It's not like Soviet Russia, where the government states that Democracy sucks. Heck, I went over there last year and my relatives, who basically represent the average Joe Blow (Or whatever you want to call average Chinese citizen) of China, stated that they knew Democracy was better, but they'll put up with it for as long as the economy grows.

I've heard otherwise. Why is it that search engines don't allow searches for democracy and freedom in China? And why does the Chinese government implant a controlling device in every computer sold with Windows 7 to ensure that no one even type "democracy" on their computer? Do I even need to mention Falun Gong?
My brother went to China this summer, and he met a British English teacher living in Beijing who educated children English. He told my brother how it works inside of the school system and how the children are nearly brainwashed to think what the government want to them to think.

Firstly, media loves controversy. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "If it doesn't bleed, it doesn't lead", right? Secondly, I had no problem searching Democracy. On THEIR computers. Thirdly, I should replace "all Chinese" with "a vast majority of Chinese", as a very small percent opposes all current actions and would, willingly or unwillingly, plunge the country into economic ruin (again) for the sake of a few.

Funny. I hear the exact opposite. The only biases I ever saw or heard (And I watched quite a bit of local TV there) was of a past hero of the country.

China's changing, guys. Change on such a scale can't take place overnight. I'm fairly confident that China can be a very strong world power, if given the time.
Not to turn this into another "China's Future" type of topic, but I predict that in 50-75 years, it'll be THE dominant nation flat out.

I personally don't have a problem with that if it were to happen, I'm more of a, "go with the flow" type so...

But the reason I bring it up is that China still has quite a ways to go before that could possibly happen. Sure, they're progressing fast but sometimes if you take things too fast, things spin out of control and you crash :-/

China has been predicted to be the dominant nation several times in history, but it never came to be. In select cases, it WAS. But the thing is China still has a lot of problems of its own, and I agree with Dark in that they need fix them before its up for consideration.

Corruption is one of the major problems plaguing China at the moment, exaserbated by a lack of willingness to really do anything major about it as long as the economic forcast remains good.
Which gives us the lax intellectual property protection that brings about things like this.
